Remote Interpreting
Interpreting provided remotely by telephone or through online platforms such as Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. It requires technical equipment: a computer, headphones, a microphone.
Interpreting that brings people together
Interpreting is more than the oral translation of words. It requires listening carefully, understanding the context and conveying the speaker’s message accurately and naturally. Listed below are the current types of interpreting, which you can use as a brief guide to find out what you are looking for:
Consecutive Interpreting
The interpreter listens to the speaker, takes notes and delivers the interpretation during the speaker’s pauses.
It does not require any equipment other than a notebook and a pen.
Simultaneous Interpreting
The interpretation is delivered simultaneously, while the speaker is still talking. It is commonly used for conferences, large events and other situations in which a message is delivered to a wide audience. It is in real-time so it requires specialised technical equipment: sound-proof cabin, technician, microphones and earphones for listeners.
Liaison Interpreting
Ideal for conversations and meetings where the interpreter facilitates communication between two or more people. It does not require technical equipment, speakers simply make a short pause after each idea for the interpreter to be able to translate what has been said.
Whispered Interpreting (Chuchotage)
The interpreter whispers the translation simultaneously to the client, without requiring specialised technical equipment. It is commonly used when the listeners are in a minority regarding their language in a big audience.
